Union agrees to talks to prevent Heathrow strike

Heathrow is meeting with union officials tomorrow to try to avert a strike during the school summer holidays.

Unite, the union representing 4,000 airport workers, said it would engage 'constructively and positively' in the discussions convened by conciliation service ACAS.

If the pay talks are unsuccessful, workers are threatening to strike on July 26 and 27, August 5 and 6 and 23 and 24.

The walkout will involve security guards, engineers, passenger service operative and passenger service drivers.

Unite regional coordinating officer Wayne King said: "Strike action is always a last resort for our members. We hope that through these talks we can secure a pay deal which better reflects the important contribution our members make to the smooth and safe running of the UK's busiest airport."
