Final US approval granted for Qantas-AA joint business tie-up

Qantas has received final approval from the US department of transportation for its joint business with American Airlines.

It was expected after the airlines were granted tentative approval last month.

Now the airlines can start planning to coordinate flight schedules and marketing activities on US-Australasia routes.

Qantas and American will start adding more codeshare routes across the respective schedules and these will go live for booking in the coming days, Qantas said.

The Aissie flag carrier is touting reduced travel time, lower fares, and more benefits for frequent fliers.

As part of the joint business venture, Qantas is introducing two new routes from Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco.

They are expected to launch in April next year on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, adding more than 170,000 transpacific seats.

Reservations for these new routes will go live soon.
