Greece wildfires warning

Holidaymakers are being warned of the dangers of three separate wildfires currently raging in Greece.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said local authorities are advising that anyone with breathing difficulties should remain indoors and switch off air-conditioning units.

The fires are ongoing in the Psachna area of the island of Evia, north of Athens, and in the Corianthiakos Bay area of Thiva, north-west of Athens.

Smoke from the fire on Evia (above), where two villages have been evacuated, is also affecting Athens.

A wildfire in Illea region, Manolada has meant that the National road between Payras and Pyrgos has been closed.

"If you're in affected areas, follow the advice of the Greek authorities and monitor the website of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection for updates," added the FCO.
