North American visitors boost Eurostar sales in second quarter

Eurostar today reported growth in passenger and sales revenues in the second quarter of the year, with passenger numbers up 3% to 2.88 million and sales revenues up 2% to £263 million.

The cross-Channel rail operator said sales were boosted by a 20% rise in visitors from North America using its services to travel between European cities.

However, Eurostar declined to give figures specifically for the UK market, not revealing whether there had been a rise or fall in passenger numbers and revenue.

CEO Mike Cooper said: "We have seen a significant increase in sales from North America as travellers enjoy the seamless connections between European cities, and the ease and comfort of high-speed rail over plane."
