TUI to sell Sharm holidays from next week

TUI is putting holidays to Sharm el Sheikh back on sale next week with flights starting in February.

The Egyptian resort will be back on sale from Thursday November 7.

Flights will initially be available from Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester from February, with flights from Doncaster Sheffield and Bristol starting in May 2020.

Resorts will include TUI Magic Life Sharm El Sheikh (pictured above) and Reef Oasis Blue Bay, with more hotel announcements in the pipeline.

Mark Hall, director of product and destination experience TUI UK & Ireland, said: "Sharm el Sheikh was always a hugely popular destination and I am delighted to confirm that we are reintroducing the Egypt favourite to our winter 2019 and summer 2020 programmes.

Last month, the Foreign Office finally lifted its four-year-long flying ban to Sharm.

As soon as the ban was lifted TUI said it would re-introduce the popular winter sun destination.

But it is understood it struggled to find suitable aircraft to operate the route at short notice due to the continued grounding of its 15 Boeing MAX 8 aircraft.

A further eight MAX jets were due to join TUI's fleet in May this year, but Boeing has yet to give a date when the aircraft will be back in the air.

Egypt specialist Red Sea Holidays was the first to restart a flying programme to Sharm, jumping into action within four hours of the Foreign Office announcement.
