Home Office downgrades terror threat for UK

The Home Office has downgraded the terror threat for the UK to its lowest level since August 2014.

The threat has been reduced from 'severe' to 'substantial', which means the UK remains at a 'high level of threat' and an attack 'might well occur without further warning'.

Substantial is the third of five levels.

A statement from Home Secretary Priti Patel said the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre took the decision following its latest review.

"As ever, the public should remain vigilant and report any concerns they may have to the police," said Patel.

"Government, police and intelligence agencies will continue to work tirelessly to address the threat posed by terrorism in all its forms. The threat level is kept under constant review."
