Delta confirms it is ending Grand Bahama flights

Delta Air Lines is indefinitely suspending service to Grand Bahama and Abaco due to the Hurricane Dorian related downturn.

The Atlanta based airline will end the seasonal service from Atlanta to Grand Bahama International Airport in Freeport and year-round service to Leonard Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour.

The routes had been suspended immediately following the devastating hurricane but now has no plans to restart the services.

Delta said it was 'a difficult decision' to make.

"Delta will continue to fly between the United States and the Bahamas via service to Nassau, available year-round from Atlanta and New York-JFK and seasonally from Boston, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale, and Minneapolis-St. Paul." The airline said in a statement.

"We will also continue to serve Exuma International Airport (GGT) year-round and North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) seasonally from Atlanta, with additional Saturday flying to both airports."

Following the disaster Delta operated eight humanitarian flights to deliver more than 85,000 pounds of supplies and helped evacuate more than 500 residents.

'We will continue to evaluate additional opportunities to support the Bahamas as affected communities recover," it said.

Grand Bahama International Airport is expected to receive its first international flights since Hurricane Dorian later this week.
