LaGuardia Airport offers cheap rides to Manhattan with Via

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is launching affordable airport rides in partnership on-demand ride share app Via.

LGA Connect is a new shared ride pilot program linking LaGuardia Airport to all five boroughs.

It is priced at $15 for rides from LaGuardia to Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, and $20 to Staten Island and the Bronx.

It aims to make traveling from the airport more affordable and convenient, and to help ease congestion

"We welcome Via's LGA Connect service which offers LaGuardia travelers a sustainable, affordable option to reach their final destinations in all five boroughs," said Rick Cotton, executive director, PANYNJ.

It is available to book daily between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. through the Via app, or at the airport at the LGA Connect desk outside of Terminal C/D.

The app's algorithms match riders heading in the same direction into a single vehicle and drops them off at main junctions within walking distance of their desired destination.

"Shared rides have the power to alleviate the heavy congestion experienced at LaGuardia Airport, while allowing New Yorkers to travel into the city in a convenient and affordable way," said Daniel Ramot, co-founder and CEO of Via.

About 30 million travelers passed through LaGuardia Airport last week, and according to Via, about 90% of them took private vehicles or individual taxis.
