LA Tourism opens India office

Los Angeles tourism leaders are hoping to tap the Hollywood-Bollywood connection.

The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board became the first US destination to open an office in India.

The office in Mumbai is headed up by Seema Kadam who serves as Los Angeles Tourism's first regional director for India.

It will engage with the travel trade to develop tailored product itineraries.

India is the fourth highest international growth market for Los Angeles and is taking on a more prominent role especially as the China market has become somewhat stagnant.

The office was inaugurated by LA Tourism CEO Ernest Wooden Jr alongside India tourism stakeholders.

"Targeted trade and consumer efforts have helped establish a distinct and relatable identity for Los Angeles amongst Indian travellers and this new office will strengthen our presence," Wooden said.

"We are optimistic that the strong foundation we have laid in the country will help us achieve our targets in the years ahead."

The office will also support development of any new air service to Los Angeles International Airport .

LA Tourism's latest forecast projects annual growth of about 4.4% in 2019, with 135,000 Indian visitors.

India is the fifth largest market for tourism-related spending in the city.
