Travel industry pays tribute to Gary Rhodes

Hotels have paid tribute to celebrity chef Gary Rhodes who has died aged 59.

He was in Dubai, where he owns two hotel restaurants, one in the Grosvenor House Dubai and another at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort

The hotels released the following joint statement: "The team at Grosvenor House Dubai and Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa are devastated to hear of the tragic passing of Chef Gary Rhodes OBE. Not only has the industry lost a true culinary legend, we have also lost an inspirational human being and a very dear friend.

"No words can express our sadness at Gary's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rhodes family."

Rhodes, best known for fronting programmes including MasterChef, Hell's Kitchen, also ran on board restaurants for P&O Cruises for six years until he was replaced by rival Marco Pierre White.

A spokesman for the cruise line said: "We were very proud of our partnership and association with Gary Rhodes and his restaurants on board our ships. We send our thoughts to his wife, family at this very sad time."

Rhodes was with his wife Jennie when he passed away. The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.
