Marriott continues record growth in Caribbean, Latin America

Marriott International had a fourth consecutive year of record expansion in the Caribbean and Latin America.

It added 10,000 more rooms to its development pipeline across 15 brands.

It also continued opening new properties at a rapid rate with 268 hotels now open in the region comprising 55,195 rooms.

"We had a landmark year for hotel transactions in the Caribbean and Latin America in 2019. We are poised for solid growth in this region," said Laurent de Kousemaeker, chief development officer, Marriott International.

de Kousemaeker said the development pipeline now numbers 46 hotels and resorts totalling more than 24,000 rooms.

Delta Hotels by Marriott signed its first deal in the region, while arguably the most significant change is the launch of its all-inclusive model.

It has signed seven agreements representing nearly 3,200 rooms.

Last year Marriott acquired Barbados-based resort operator Elegant Hotels Group.
