Three passengers on Ruby Princess confirmed with coronavirus

Princess Cruises is helping authorities in Australia contact about 2,700 passengers who were onboard the Ruby Princess after some guests tested positive for coronavirus.

The ship docked in Sydney Harbor yesterday at around 6am local time and passengers were allowed to disembark, despite the fact that some of those onboard had been displaying flu-like symptoms during the cruise. Three of those have since been confirmed with the coronavirus.

Some British passengers are understood to be waiting for flights back to the UK; 1,100 crew members remain on board.

Princess said those who were sick onboard had been in isolation, along with their travelling companions, 'minimising contact with other guests and crew'.

The New South Wales Department of Health asked that people who were on the ship self-isolate for 14 days and should seek medical help if they experience flu-like symptoms.

New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard said it is possible that other passengers who disembarked in Sydney may be carrying the virus without symptoms.
