Kuoni launches central call centre

Kuoni has launched a new central call centre staffed by 40 personal travel agents working from home.

The call centre has been set up after it closed all of its 48 stores this week.

The long-haul specialist said amid the crisis planning and support it has had a steady stream of people asking about honeymoons, destination weddings and worldwide tours for 2021.

"We suspect over the next few weeks more people will want ideas and plans to look forward to once this is behind us," said CEO Derek Jones.

Last week Kuoni laid off 70 staff due to the coronavirus crisis but earlier this week it sent a message to those employees telling them their jobs were safe thanks to the government's financial support for businesses.

Kuoni parent DER Touristik UK said it was taking advantage of the UK government's furloughed worker scheme to save the jobs and also to support all staff through the COVID19 crisis.

A spokeswoman said all 70 staff were now back with the company but classed as furloughed workers.
