Carnival Cruise Line to resume some sailings in August

Carnival Cruise Line is to resume some of its North American itineraries on August 1.

The company plans to resume cruises on eight ships from Miami and Port Canaveral in Florida, as well as Galveston in Texas.

Carnival Dream, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Vista are among those expected to set sail from Galveston; Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sensation will operate from Miami, while Carnival Breeze and Carnival Elation will sail from Port Canaveral.

Operations for other North American ports and its Australian sailings will be suspended until August 31.

The company said: "We are committed to supporting all public health efforts to manage the Covid-19 situation

"We are taking a measured approach, focusing our return to service on a select number of homeports where we have more significant operations that are easily accessible by car for the majority of our guests."

British cruise lines P&O Cruises and Cunard - which are part of the Carnival group - has suspended sailings until at least the end of July.

The news comes as owner Carnival Corp said it was thoroughly cooperating with a Congressional inquiry into the company's handling of Covid-19 cases on board some of its ships.
