Disney Springs opening later this month

Disney World Resort has signalled its first move to gradually reopen in Florida.

The Disney Springs dining, shopping and entertainment complex will be the first to open on May 20.

It will have a phased reopening with reduced capacity and likely reduced operating hours.

Disney Springs features more than 100 stores, 60 dining venues and more than 20 attractions and shows.

It will feature updated health and safety procedures.

"Disney Springs will begin to reopen in a way that incorporates enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, and limited-contact guest services," the company said.

"We will apply learnings and ideas from leaders in the health and travel industries, and we're also talking to our unions as we prepare for some cast members to return to work."

Beyond Disney Springs, no decision has been made on opening theme parks and resort hotels yet.

All facilities at Disney parks in California remain closed.
