  • Covid infections.

I am monitoring the Coronavirus situation in Mauritius. Surprised to learn that there are 2 new active infections. Reports advise being members of the same family who respected conditions and were in solitary confinement. The news from the Mauritian community reveal that these 2 new infections were contract workers from India in Mauritius. If this is factual there is an essential requirement for Mauritian authorities to implement more stringent procedures upon visitors from outside Mauritius. The first infection in Mauritius was encountered from a citizen of Mauritius returning from England. It is a drastic problem to have visitors to Mauritius who bring the infection with them and impose dangerous and potentially a life threatening virus to the general community of concerned citizens who are following restrictions and are fearful of infection. There is also the dire situation that this threat has on the financial situation to all business operators in Mauritius.

  • COVID avoidance actions.

I am extremely aware of actions implemented and enforced by Mauritian authorities. I strongly praise the guidelines. With a total of 10 deaths to date (22/05/20) and no further statistics, the severe actions have played a significant role. The 1st infections and resulted death was possibly a result of irresponsible actions taken by airport arrival staff with the arrival of a Mauritian national from UK. Being a native from Belgium.
