TSA reports uptick in air travelers

There are clear signs air travel is rebounding based on the latest screening data from the TSA.

More than 1.2 million people passed through airport checkpoints across the US last weekend.

While still well down on normal levels, it is the highest weekend total since March 20 -22.

On June 5 there were more than 400,000 air travelers, which is a big improvement on the historic low of just 87,000 on April 14 this year.

The agency has implemented a raft of new procedures to keep screeners and passengers safe.

Boarding passes are now scanned by passengers themselves and held up for TSA agents to make a visual check.

Passengers now must place food items into a clear plastic bag and placed into a bin, and the TSA has slightly relaxed the limit on liquids to allow a hand sanitizer container up to 12 ounces in carry-on bags.

The wearing of face coverings and social distancing is required during screening and throughout the airport.
