Bomb threats received at Mumbai Taj Hotels

Mumbai Police has beefed up its security at two Taj Hotels in the city after terrorist threats.

The threats targeted Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel at Colaba, and Taj Lands End at  Bandra which both received separate calls thteatening to detonate bombs.

Authorities said the caller identified himself as a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba group in Pakistan.

Police counter-terrorism units were deployed to the hotels, local media reported.

The hotels remain closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Police have increased the presence of its personnel around the hotel and nearby areas," Mumbai Police told Indian media.

Taj Mahal Palace was the scene of an attack in 2008 which was part of a three-day siege across the city which left 174 people dead.

A decade later the incident was re-enacted in the movie 'Hotel Mumbai.'

"We immediately alerted the authorities on receiving these calls and are providing full support and cooperation to the investigating agencies," Taj Hotels said in a statement.
