UNWTO: 40 percent of destinations have eased some travel curbs

About 40% all destinations worldwide have relaxed some travel restrictions since the height of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The UN World Tourism Organization's latest outlook report shows a slow but steady easing of travel restrictions.

It is up from 22% of destinations in mid-June and just 3% in May.

"It confirms the trend of a slow but continuous adaptation and responsible restart of international tourism," the UN agency said.

Still, very few have completely lifted all restrictions.

Out, of the 87 destinations that have now eased them, only four have completely lifted them with no limitations.

Nearly a quarter of these 87 destinations are classed as Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and many of these are heavily reliant on tourism revenues.

There are still 115 countries and regions which continue to keep their borders completely closed for tourism purposes.
