IATA launches airline health checklist

The International Air Transport Association has rolled out a health checklist for airlines to measure their Covid-19 protocols against the industry as a whole.

The IATA Health Safety Checklist for Airline Operators is a self-assessment guide containing the latest standards and recommended measures airlines should take.

It covers all stages of the passenger journey from pre-arrival to check-in, boarding and deplaning, aircraft cabin cleaning, onboard air quality and crew operations.

"Safety is always the number one priority for air transport and the challenges of Covid-19 have added a new dimension to our efforts," said IATA Director General and CEO Alexandre de Juniac.

It was developed in coordination with industry leaders, health experts and government officials.

It is hoped it will lead to a single standard globally.

"A harmonized approach to health is key not only to the recovery of civil aviation but also to 'building back better,' which is crucially important to ensuring the future resilience of the aviation network," added ICAO's Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano.

Airports are also proposing a standardized Health Accreditation program which has been tabled by Airports Council International.

Istanbul Airport was the first airport to be accredited in the program.

"Our new program enables airports to demonstrate to passengers, staff, regulators, and governments that they are prioritizing health and safety in a measurable, established manner," said said ACI World Director General, Luis Felipe de Oliveira.
