TUI drops Zante party resort after cluster of Covid cases

TUI has cancelled holidays to the party resort of Laganas on the Greek island of Zante from tomorrow amid fears some customers are ignoring Covid-19 safety measures.

The move follows a spate of positive cases of the disease linked to holidaymakers returning from the Greek island.

Wales has six clusters of Covid-19 cases with a total of 30 infections, which have been linked to flights from Zante. TUI is the only airline that flies from the Greek island to Cardiff.

TUI UK and Ireland MD Andrew Flintham said the resort was popular with young people 'who traditionally holiday in large groups of friends'.
He added: "The health and safety of our colleagues and customers is our primary concern and recent cases shows that some customers are not following social distancing and Covid safety measures.

"It is therefore the right thing to do to protect and reduce a now identified potential risk to others by no longer offering holidays to this specific resort.

"The recent cases in Wales have highlighted a demographic of customers that have recently returned from Zante and subsequently tested positive.

"We believe that with good track and trace processes, testing at airports and a nuanced approach to regional travel corridors, customers can continue to travel safety."

TUI will continue to operate holidays to the rest of Zante. Customers due to travel from Scotland, which has reintroduced a quarantine requirement for arrivals from Greece from tomorrow, will be able to amend or cancel their holidays.
