Longwoods: Half of Americans feel safe taking a fall season road trip

Longwoods International has released data from its most recent American traveler study, which says half of people feel safe enough to travel this fall.

It finds 58% plan on taking a US road trip with outdoor activities a big preference.

This includes trips to national and state parks, leaf peeping tours, biking and hiking.

The survey, which is backed by Miles Partnership, was conducted on 9 September, 2020 and taken from a consumer panel of 1,000 adults.

"Clearly a sizeable percentage of the travelers have settled into a new 'normal' for traveling during the pandemic," said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International.

"The heavy emphasis on visiting friends and family, road trips and individual outdoor activities all reflect on the relative perceived safety of those types of getaways."

The survey finds the number of travelers who have changed travel plans due to the changing dynamic of Covid-19 has been declining steadily.

It has fallen from 85% in early April to 67% in early September.

It found half of travelers also feel safe dining in local restaurants and shopping in local stores.

About 40% also welcome visitors coming into their communities.
