Hong Kong Airport handled just 84,000 passengers last month

Hong Kong International Airport, one of Asia's top air hubs, handled just 84,000 passenger movements last month.

That is down a whopping 98.6%.

The 10,000 flight movements during August 2020 represent a decline of 72%.

The airport authority said demand remains at record lows due to Hong Kong's restrictions for non-residents, and quarantine measures in place for nationals of different countries.

The airport has handled just 8.5 million passengers during the first eight months of 2020, which is down 85% year-to-date.

The airport's dominant carrier Cathay Pacific carried just 43,000 passengers in July 2020 which is down almost 99% compared to July 2019.

HKIA handled more than 71 million passengers last year.
