Thailand and Singapore removed from quarantine list

Thailand and Singapore have been added to the UK government's list of Covid-safe travel destinations.

But Slovenia and Guadeloupe have been added to the quarantine list, meaning that anyone entering the UK after 4am on Saturday from either country will have to isolate for two weeks.

Wales has also added Gibraltar to its safe list.

Adding Thailand and Singapore to the safe list won't have much effect, as most people are currently unable to visit the destinations.

At present only certain categories of foreign nationals are permitted to enter or transit Thailand and those that are eligible to enter will be subject to a 14-day state quarantine at a Thai government-designated facility at their own expense. If suspected of carrying Covid-19, visitors are likely to be denied entry.

Short-term visitors from anywhere in the world are not able to enter the city-state, while long-term pass holders and dependants need approval before entering. Those who are granted permission to enter Singapore will be issued with a 14-day Stay at Home Notice (SHN).

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said: "While the government characterises these as travel corridors, the addition of Thailand and Singapore won't make any difference to most travellers as a vast majority of UK residents still can't gain entry to either destinations.

"It's an inaccurate term, and may lead to some people purchasing flights only to find themselves barred from boarding at the airport and with no right to a refund.

"It's clear we are going to continue for some period with countries being added and removed from these lists. That being the case, the government needs to do a better job of clearly communicating to where travel is and isn't possible."
