Tourist attractions increase visitor capacity for China's National Day holiday

Tourist sites across mainland China will be permitted to increase their daily operating capacity for the upcoming National Day holiday period.

The holiday begins on 1 October, and tourist sites and scenic spots will be allowed to increase capacity to 75%, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said.

The ministry said national tourist attractions with a 5A rating and larger 4A level attractions should implement capacity-controlled reservation systems, if they haven't alreday done so,  to ease any potential overcrowding.

All visitors can expect to have their body temperature checked before entering, and social distancing protocols will be enforced in enclosed public areas, in restaurants and on public transport.

The ministry also issued comprehensive guidelines for tour agencies and online travel suppliers for the safe handling of tourists, especially group tours.

It also issued procedures on limiting food wastage at hotels and restaurants.

This year the National Day holiday overlaps with the Mid-Autumn Festival which extends the holiday period to eight days.
