South Australia reopening border to NSW

Australian state border restrictions are gradually easing.

South Australia will open to travellers from New South Wales from midnight, allowing NSW residents to enter without undergoing quarantine for 14 days.

"This is going to be a relief that will be felt across our state, from an economic perspective and from a family perspective," said SA Premier Steven Marshall.

"I know there are many people in South Australia, and many in New South Wales, who will be absolutely delighted by the lifting of this restriction," he said.

Also, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would extend its 'border bubble' 100km further south into NSW starting from 1 October.

That allows residents of Byron Shire, Ballina, the city of Lismore, Richmond Valley, Glen Innes and 41 more NSW postcodes to cross the Queensland border.

The easing of travel between South Australia and NSW has been welcomed by tourism leaders.

"I congratulate the Premier of South Australia Steven Marshall and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and both state governments on this significant and hugely positive development," said Tourism and Transport Forum Australia Chief Executive Margy Osmond.

"Border reopenings are music to the ears of tourism, accommodation, aviation and transport businesses right around the country, and we need this momentum to continue."

Tourism and Transport Forum Australia said nearly two-thirds of Australians want to see all state borders completely open by Christmas.

South Australia's state border with Victoria is the only one which will still remains closed.
