Mexican Caribbean resorts reopen after Hurricane Delta pounding

Resorts across the Mexican Caribbean are back open and Cancun and Cozumel Airports have resumed operations a day after Hurricane Delta made landfall.

Authorities reported no serious damage or deaths across the region.

Delta came ashore near Puerto Morelos as a Category 2 hurricane, Quintana Roo Governor Carlos Joaquín said, and all municipalities have been downgraded to a Yellow alert level.

It had toppled tries and caused power cuts.

Cancun Mayor Mara Lezama said several neighborhoods were still without power as of Thursday.

Following a clean-up and damage assessments, most tourists who were evacuated have been able to return to their hotels but tourists and residents alike are still being asked to take any necessary precautions.

The Quintana Roo Tourism Board said it will keep monitoring the situation and provide any updates.

Tourists in Quintana Roo are requested to download the 'Guest Assist' app enabling them to request assistance during emergency situations.

Delta is currently inching north in the Gulf and could make landfall in Louisiana as a Category 3 storm.

That could be life threatening for some communities with sustained winds of 120 miles per hour

"It is very clear that Southwest Louisiana is going to get more of a punch from this than we would like to see, for sure, because we're still trying to recover from Hurricane Laura," Governor John Bel Edwards said.
