An independent travel agency has made the 'heart wrenching' decision to close after 21 years.
Kent-based Go Travel posted 'Nowhere to Go!!!!!' on its website and social media today, saying it had ceased trading with immediate effect.
The company, which operated under Go Travel, Go Active Travel, Cultural Breaks, Lates and Coach Holidays, praised its 'amazing' staff who had agreed to work from home and cut their hours.
It also said it had tried all means possible to keep the business running and all its staff employed during 'this very difficult time'.
"Unfortunately, after exhausting all avenues trying to survive, the family had to make the awful, heart wrenching decision to close its doors. It's a very sad day, as we know we are not alone, many, many others are in the same position as us, who knows how long Coronavirus will keep tightening its hold on the travel industry."
"We are very lucky and thankful to have had such a loyal client base and fantastic staff for so many years."
The majority of holidays sold by Go Travel - a member of the Advantage Travel Group - were sold as an agent for other tour operators.
Go Travel also sold a small number of ATOL protected flight-inclusive packages and a small number of package holidays which did not include flight, which are protected by ABTA.
Go Travel's failure comes just a day after Advantage Travel Partnership chief executive Julia Lo Bue-Said lamented the delay in a testing system and warned of a 'tidal wave' of business failures.
Customers are being advised to visit ABTA's website at www.abta.com/gotravel for full details of what to do next and how to make a claim.
