Hurtigruten forms separate expedition cruise company

As it battles back from the long cruse shutdown due to Covid-19, cruise line Hurtigruten will emerge as two separate entities.


It is restructuring the business to create a separate expedition cruising business.


This will result in the company being split into Hurtigruten Expeditions and Hurtigruten Norway.


It will put the company in a good position to tap pent-up crusiing demand for 2021, said Hurtigruten Group chief executive, Daniel Skjeldam.





"For the second half of 2021 and beyond, we are seeing a strong demand across all markets and all destinations, including the Norwegian coast, the Arctic and Antarctica," he said.


Hurtigruten Expeditions will offer cruises spanning more than 250 destinations, from the Northwest Passage to South America and Antarctica.


Asta Lassesen has been appointed as CEO of the new expeditions business.


It has a fleet of eight small-size ships, and in 2021 offers a number of new itineraries including a full season in Alaska.
