Taiwan startup StarLux Airlines targets flights to 15 North American cities

New Taiwan based carrier StarLux Airlines Co says it has applied to fly to up to 15 destinations in North America.

StarLux President Glenn Chai said it applied initially to Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration.

Chai said it is targeting routes to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Guam, Honolulu, Seattle, San Jose, Ontario, Canada, New York JFK Airport, Newark, Washington D.C., Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and Boston.

It applied now with its home regulator but any flights are likely more than a year away at the earliest.

The airline said it will depend on aircraft deliveries and how market conditions pan out over the next year.

It expects North American flights to begin sometime in 2022.

Since its inception it has had stated it ambition to serve the US market.

The airline only launched just before the global Covid-19 pandemic and currently serves three international destinations in Asia.

It flies to Macau, Penang in Malaysia, and Danang in Vietnam, and will launch to Osaka and Tokyo in Japan next month.

It has 18 Airbus A350s on order.
