Princess Cruises cancels all voyages until end of March

Princess Cruises will not resume operations until 31 March at the earliest while no US voyage of more than a week will take place for another year.

Cruises in and out of Japan will be cancelled until 25 June.

The cruise line said the further pause is in response to a framework of recovery released by the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Travel agent commissions on bookings for cancelled cruises have again been protected 'in recognition of the critical role they play in the cruise line's business and success'.

Princess said the further delay will give it time to put in place the necessary measures for cruising's safe return.

The company added that it also took into consideration the temporary seven-day cap on itineraries that call at a US port.

No cruises of more than a week will opefrate in or out of the US until at least 1 November.

"We are focused on preparing our ships to meet the CDC health and safety requirements for our eventual return to service," Princess Cruises President Jan Swartz said. "We also appreciate the continued support we have received from our guests, partners and travel advisors, reinforcing for all of us why we do what we do."

Guests currently booked on cancelled voyages have the option to receive a refundable Future Cruise Credit (FCC) equivalent to 100% of the cruise fare paid plus an additional non-refundable bonus future credit equal to 25% of the cost of the cruise.

Refunds must be requested by 31 December or guests will be automatically registered for the Future Cruise Credit option, Princess said.
