Covid cluster leads to hundreds of flight cancellations at Shanghai Airport

Hundreds of flights were cancelled at one of China's largest airports after a new Covid-19 cluster was linked to some cargo handlers.

Officials said they have tested thousands of workers at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport after seven infections were linked to the airport.

More than 500 flights were cancelled.

State news agency Xinhua said more than 17,000 people were tested.

The country has mostly eradicated the virus but when local clusters occur authorities have been taking no chances.

It generally conducts mass screenings of entire districts and sometimes whole cities with millions of inhabitants.

In another localised outbreak, about half of all scheduled flights at Tianjin International Airport were cancelled as health workers conducted testing of more than two million people.
