Tourists ordered to leave as Thai island goes into lockdown

A Thai island has evicted all tourists and been placed on lockdown after a positive Covid case at the busy boat pier.


About 100 tourists were removed from the island of Koh Lan ahead of the full lockdown which began on Tuesday.


The island is locked down until 20 January.





All accommodation operators were ordered to send guests away on Monday, and no new guests are allowed on the island until the lockdown is ended.


The Chonburi public health office asked all travellers who sailed between Pattaya and Koh Lan during the Christmas and New Year period to monitor their health and inform the Koh Lan Covid-19 committee if they display any symptoms.


Residents of Koh Lan are not permitted to leave the island and a curfew is in effect nightly from 10pm-5am.


Additionally, restaurants are available only for take-away service.
