IndiGo airport manager shot dead

A major police investigation is underway after an IndiGo manager was shot dead near his home in the city of Patna.

Airport manager Rupesh Kumar was gunned down outside his home after returning from work at Patna Airport.

The assailants were two men on a motorbike, police said.

He was rushed to hospital but died on the way.

The airline is cooperating fully with the investigation.

"Extremely saddened by the demise of our Patna airport manager. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. We are in contact with his family and providing them with our full support," IndiGo said.

No motive is known - whether a robbery attempt gone wrong or a targeted killing, but it has triggered a war of words between local politicians.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been slammed by rivals for being corrupt and soft on crime, with one saying 'state-protected criminals' were responsible for the killing.
