Carnival cancels more voyages but 'heartened' by demand

Carnival Cruise Line has claimed it is 'heartened' by forward bookings but said it has again been forced to cancel more voyages.


The company has put back all US departures until 30 April 2021, while Australian operations will not resume until at least 19 May. 


It has also cancelled Carnival Legend's European itineraries, which were to begin this May, through to 31 October.


Meanwhile, Carnival's new vessel, Mardi Gras, will now debut on 29 May from Port Canaveral, a month later than scheduled.


Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said: "Our guests and travel agent partners continue to express their loyalty to Carnival and their desire to get back on our ships as soon as they can, and we are heartened by the booking demand and activity we continue to see.


"We are certainly committed to welcoming them back as quickly as possible, but unfortunately we have determined it's going to take a while longer, and the situation in Europe will also impact Mardi Gras' departure to the US, and Carnival Legend's itineraries in Europe."


Affected passengers will be offered a cruise credit or a full refund.
