IATA to launch Travel Pass app this month

Airline industry body IATA said it will officially roll out its Covid-19 Travel Pass digital health app in mid-April.

Still in the testing phases with multiple airlines, it will launch initially on the iOS platform.

At an undetermined later date it will roll out on Android.

According to IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Alawadhi the Travel Pass is expected to launch on the Apple platform around 15 April.

"But the application will only achieve its success once airlines, different countries, airports adopt it," Alawadhi said.

Travel Pass allows the secure uploading of Covid test results and potentially proof of vaccination.

IATA says it will help speed up passenger check-in.

"A huge amount of airlines have requested to be on board," Alawadhi said.

These include Air Baltic, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Rwandair, and Virgin Atlantic.
