Germany plans to shift domestic flight passengers onto trains

Following measures being taken in France to shift short domestic flight capacity to the railways, Germany plans a similar move. Germany's rail operator Deutsche Bahn and the aviation industry, including Lufthansa, have agreed to move about 20% of domestic flight passengers onto trains to reduce emissions.

They have targeted to move up to 4.3 million domestic flight passengers onto trains. It will do this by building new direct high-speed train connections and improving rail links at airports.

They say CO2 emissions could be reduced by a sixth.

    All that will happen is that More Economically Viable c Airlines such as Turkish, Aer Lingus and TAP will add new e flights from Regional Airports to their Hubs and Lufthansa and Air France will suffer. .
