US State Department relaxes advisory for travel to the UK

The US State Department has eased its travel advisory for the UK after initially raising it to the highest warning level last month along with dozens of other countries.

The State Department has now lowered the UK to the 'Level 3: Reconsider Travel' tier.

It follows pressure to reopen a US-UK-Europe transatlantic air travel corridor by a group of US, UK and European airlines, airports and travel companies.

"The return of transatlantic flying would not only have a significantly positive impact on our respective economies but will also reunite those who have been separated from their loved ones for over a year," the companies said in a letter.

It was signed by the US Chamber of Commerce, Airlines for America, Virgin Atlantic, the Association of UK Airlines and others.

Last week, England announced a green list of countries for quarantine-free travel but the US was not on it.

Most of Europe still bans leisure travel from the US but several countries will allow Americans by the summer.

The State Department also relaxed the travel advisory for Israel further to a 'Level 2 - Exercise Increased Caution'.
