Home checks on amber list travellers stepped up

Travellers returning from 'amber list' countries can expect a knock at the door.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said enforcement is being stepped up to make sure people are isolating at home for the required 10 days.

The number of home visits is being stepped up to about 10,000 home visits a day, and the government said 30,000 were conducted last week.

The government has signed up private contractors to beef up home visits.

The so-called 'holiday police' will report absentee residents to police.

"Significant resources have been put in place - millions of pounds - in terms of the follow-up checking of people around their testing and making sure they stay at home," Patel said.

Anyone not at home at the time could be liable for a fine of up to £10,000.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the government's messaging on the traffic light system has been 'crystal clear' despite confusion.

Britons 'should not go to an amber or red list country on holiday' and any essential travel should be for 'exceptional circumstances.'

Holidaymakers returning from countries on the 'green list' do not have to home quarantine, but are required to take a PCR test on day two after their return.

People arriving from 'red list' countries will be accommodated in a managed quarantine facility.

Big brother is in charge.... George Orwell was correct and how......No one can be under the radar,I am originally from good ol'London town, and greatful too..... but I wouldn't put up with all this policing and goings on.....We live here at the seaside town, where we have 2 local police living besides us and area Tourist police, that's it....no checking or any kind of hassles,we follow rules which are simply easy to follow....Is it all control freaking overdone or is the society rebellious enough for these harshly handed rules which are put in place?.... sure there must be a reason somewhere?
