Teletext Holidays agrees to pay outstanding customer refunds

Teletext Holidays and Alpharooms have officially agreed to return £7 million worth of travel booking refunds to customers after sustained pressure to do so from regulator CMA.

It relates to cancelled holidays during the pandemic as nations closed borders and lockdowns mposed.

Their parent company has signed a binding agreement to return monies owed to customers by the end of August, with those waiting longest first in line.

Furthermore, Truly Holdings pledged any new refunds for cancelled holidays will be processed within 14 days.

The CMA launched an investigation into Teletext Holidays earlier this year and had threatened legal action.

Andrea Coscelli, chief executive of the CMA, said: "There's no excuse for travel firms to delay refunding customers what they are legally owed, even in these extraordinary times. Companies should be doing the right thing without the threat of court action."

"As a result of our work, customers who have waited many months for their money back from Teletext Holidays and Alpharooms will now receive a full refund.

Under the terms of the agreement, Teletext will provide the CMA with regular reports on the progress of customer refunds.
