ABTA calls on members to invite MPs into stores

ABTA is calling on agency members to invite their local MPs into their stores and businesses to show them exactly the challenges they are currently facing.

With a parliamentary debate on travel planned for 10 June, ABTA has updated tools that travel agents and tour operators can use in their contact with their local MP.

ABTA recommends members invite their MP to come into their store to see for themselves what issues agencies have been facing for more than a year.

The new tools include a template email for MPs, a briefing note and a concise infographic on the economic realities affecting travel agents during the pandemic.

The tools can be found at

Mark Tanzer is appearing at the Treasury Select Committee next week, and ABTA launched a short poll to collate additional evidence from members regarding their access to support schemes and current challenges.

The data it gathers will provide valuable feedback on the many issues facing the sector.

Luke Petherbridge, Director of Public Affairs at ABTA - The Travel Association said: "It's really important that we encourage as many MPs as possible to attend the debate in June and speak up for the industry."

"There is strong support for the sector among many parliamentarians, but we need to keep up the pressure on Government to act to save the travel industry."
