United Airlines eyes supersonic transatlantic travel

United Airlines plans to buy supersonic passenger jets, which could cut average flight time in half. United said it will buy 15 new Overture aircraft from Boom Supersonic, and has an option to buy 35 more in the future.

The manufacturer says they could be ready for commercial use by 2029. The planes could fly at speeds of Mach 1.7, which would reduce the New York City to London flying time to about three hours, 30 minutes.

    So reminiscent of TWA and PanAm in the 1960's who both initially ordered Concord. Then the nonresistant Boeing 2707 was announced. Neither materialized and both These 2 Leading US Transatlantic Airlines vanished into Obscurity by the end of The Century.
