Two guests positive for Covid on first major Caribbean cruise

The first major cruise to leave North America since the beginning of the pandemic has two positive Covid cases.

Two guests, staying in the same stateroom, tested positive on the Celebrity Millennium which departed this week from St Maarten.

It is scheduled to return on Saturday.

The two cases were discovered while ship crew were conducting the required end of cruise testing.

The sailing is a fully-vaccinated cruise and the two guests are asymptomatic and are being monitored in isolation.

Prior to boarding, passengers were required to show proof of vaccination as well as a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours before sailing.

The ship is continuing its itinerary as normal although ship crew are conducting contact tracing, and expediting testing for all close contacts.

"This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols work to protect our crew, guests and the communities we visit," the cruise line said.
