EU set to reintroduce travel restriction for Americans

The European Union is set to reimpose Covid-related travel restrictions for Americans.

It would bring to an end nonessential travel from the US and five other countries.

These are Kosovo, Israel, Montenegro, Lebanon and North Macedonia, according to an unnamed official.

It would re-establish travel restrictions such as quarantine and testing requirements for unvaccinated travelers.

The European Council had recommended lifting inbound transatlantic travel restrictions in June.

The Delta variant has raged across the US with states like Florida especially hard hit, despite near record levels of out of state tourist arrivals.

The Sunshine State has the highest Covid-19 hospitalization rate in the country.

About 52% of the US population is fully vaccinated according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

An EU decision on tightening travel restrictions from the US is expected later on Monday.
