Traffic light system revamp nearing completion

A full shake-up of the much maligned traffic light system is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

According to officials, it should be finalised by Friday and the changes will be rolled out well  ahead of  the October half-term break.

The shake-up of the traffic light system is expected to see a new simplified two-tier system, combining the current green and amber lists into a single tier.

Boris Johnson this week said officials are working on 'simplifying' the traffic light system.

A red list high risk tier would remain. The number of red list countries may also be significantly reduced.

The other major change expected is the axing of expensive PCR tests for fully vaccinated travellers, which are currently required on day two of their arrival in the UK.

They will be replaced by cheaper lateral flow tests.

Sources say the plans will be signed off either today or Friday but may not be publically announced yet.
