Visit Finland joins Global Sustainable Tourism Council

Visit Finland announced that Finland is now a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

The programme helps foster consumer confidence and makes it easier for travel partners and travellers to make 'greener' choices when visiting Finland.

As of June 2020, Visit Finland has implemented the Sustainable Travel Finland programme, which awards a Sustainable Travel Finland label to tourism companies and destinations that have undergone the entire STF programme and fulfilled the criteria.

The GSTC is an independent and neutral organisation that represents a diverse membership, including national and provincial governments, leading travel companies, hotels, tour operators, NGO's, individuals and communities.

Membership shows that Visit Finland supports the work that GSTC does for sustainable tourism.

"Sustainability will be in the core of our mission with a fundamental role in the recovery of the travel industry after its disruption. We have an ambitious vision to make Finland the leading sustainable travel destination," said Kristiina Hietasaari, Senior Director of Visit Finland.

Visit Finland says by joining the GSTC, Finland can benchmark and learn from other members.

The GSTC also offers members-only webinars and paid courses for the whole tourism industry to develop sustainability strategies.
