AAPA backs Air Transport Action Group's goal of net zero carbon emissions

Trade group the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) has backed the Air Transport Action Group's declaration on adopting a climate goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

AAPA had already announced its own commitment to net zero emissions last month

AAPA has embraced the industry's climate change commitments to date, including the adoption of the ICAO CORSIA as part of industry measures to achieve carbon neutral growth from 2020 onwards.

AAPA reaffirms its support for ATAG and ICAO as well as its member states in a collaborative approach to meet aviation emissions targetsin the longer term.

It requires a comprehensive approach involving multiple stakeholders to deliver emissions reductions, AAPA says.

This is critical to achieving a fully sustainable aviation industry by 2050, it said.

"Sustainability is a global challenge that calls for a global solution. Together, we need to ensure that distribution of the burden of reducing carbon emissions is fair and equitable, while allowing the industry to recover and restart," said Subhas Menon, Director General of AAPA, recently on announcement of its pledge of net zero emissions by 2050 for member airlines.
