PATA UK applauds red list update

Chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK & Ireland, Chris Crampton, welcomed the latest UK government update as all destinations in the Asia Pacific region were removed from the red list.

"Finally a positive step in the right direction but however welcome the progress is, we remain under restrictions without any support. We should not have to feel grateful. We have had no sector support from the government, and have been considered acceptable collateral damage throughout," Crampton said.

"This latest move is of course a boost to the industry and families separated during the pandemic. It gives confidence to travellers to start planning trips for next year and of course last minute winter sun opportunities to popular destinations like UAE, Maldives, Thailand and Sri Lanka."

"The announcement isn't a return to normality and there is still the issue of testing on return to resolve, which also continues to put our colleagues in the UK inbound sector who remain at a major disadvantage to other European countries."

"We've got to keep making the arguments, we've got to keep shouting about our fight for sector-specific support. There's still some way to go," Crampton added.
