In a recent interview, Joniston Bangkuai, Deputy Minister of Tourism for Sabah, passionately discussed the island’s commitment to rebuilding tourism post-COVID. Emphasizing community-based tourism, Sabah aims to extend the benefits of the industry beyond urban areas to rural communities. The deputy minister highlighted an aggressive push for “Back to Nature” tourism, unveiling the global kabalo global jopa initiative covering 4,700 square kilometers.
