The Angkor Complex is under renovation as tourists are given the green light to return

Cambodia has announced that fully vaccinated tourists arriving from Australia are now allowed to enter their country quarantine free, and we couldn’t be more excited to get back to this fascinating country!
Cambodia is a complex country steeped in history and rich culture. Arguably the jewel in the country’s crown, the Angkor Complex is considered one of the most important ancient monuments in Southeast Asia and is a testament to the Khmer Empire legacy which ruled from the 9th to 15th century. The huge complex spans over 400 square kilometres, and is comprised of scores of ancient capital cities, spectacular monuments and unique archeological ruins tucked away in the forest. You could spend days there and still not uncover all the treasures it holds.
Due to COVID-19 the Angkor Complex has been closed to tourists for over a year now. Yet the site hasn’t been deserted, instead they have used this time to renovate, repair and improve facilities in preparation for the return of tourists. “The guests at Angkor Archaeological Park are few, but the preservation and protection work at Angkor is not quiet. Infrastructural improvement projects, gardening and planting and repairing ancient temples, for example, are being conducted regularly,” stated Apsara Authority spokesman Long Kosal.
Currently work is being completed on the Bay Ka’ek Temple, the oldest temple located in the west of Angkor Wat. The project will see the rehabilitation of the Terrace of the Elephants which will feature the culture and civilisation of the ancient Khmer empire.
Travel to Cambodia with us in 2022 and discover this fascinating country on our 15 day all inclusive Around Cambodia group tour.
